- The beach unlocks the story. Reach a stop and it opens the next chapter. Trivia at some, a photo challenge with the dog at others. One phone can run it for everybody, or each player follows along on their own.

Why it is written for the dog
Most days out here end with somebody sitting in the truck with the windows cracked while everyone else goes in somewhere. That does not happen on this route, because there is nowhere to go in. It is sand, horses, water and sky for eleven miles, and he is allowed at every single stop.
One rule people get wrong out here. Currituck County has no voice-control exception. Off your own property a dog has to be on a leash, in a vehicle or in an enclosure — countywide, with no season where it relaxes. You will read otherwise on plenty of Outer Banks blogs. In practice the truck does most of the work: he rides with you, and he is on the leash when he is out of it.

Do I need a 4x4?

How long does it take?
Plan on a full day. There is no clock and no booked start — the tide sets the schedule more than we do.
